About Improv Roulette
Improv Roulette is a collaborative performance experiment. Participants work together to create spur-of-the-moment reactive performances. Through this exploration, performers are able to practice improvisation techniques in a safe, low pressure setting. Improv Roulette is a multidisciplinary experiment. Dancers in any style, acrobats, poi artists, hoopers, break dancers, puppetry performers, musicians, poets, and singers are all welcome. The goals of Improv Roulette are to foster collaboration, community, and creative spontaneity. Also, it’s really fun.
Improv Roulette was founded by Elizabeth Joy in 2012. Since then, it has grown from six participants to a national community with four official chapters across the United States. We are continuously growing our community and have many exciting things in store for 2018. For more information, please visit our FAQ page.
About Elizabeth Joy
Elizabeth Joy’s belly dance debut was at eight years old at her uncle’s wedding, where her mother made her perform in front of a very intimidating crowd of distant relatives. Despite the rocky start to her dance career, Elizabeth finally found her way back to Middle Eastern dance classes in 2007. Elizabeth Joy has performed at many diverse venues both as a solo artist, and as a member of various troupes. She is currently a proud member of Alwan Dance Ensemble.
Elizabeth Joy has a passion for collaborative projects. She believes that you learn a lot about yourself when you are creating with others.
When she’s not performing, Elizabeth is an industrial textile designer, a begonia collector, and a pickling enthusiast. She firmly maintains that all outfits can be improved upon with the addition of a cardigan.
